As the curtains close on Parashat Bereshit, we find God steeped in sadness.
ΧΦ·ΧΦΌΦ΄Χ ΦΌΦΈΦ£ΧΦΆΧ Χ’ ΧΦΌΦ΄Φ½Χ-Χ’ΦΈΧ©ΧΦΈΦ₯Χ ΧΦΆΧͺ-ΧΦ½ΦΈΧΦΈΧΦΈΦΧ ΧΦΌΦΈΧΦΈΦΧ¨ΦΆΧ₯ ΧΦ·ΧΦΌΦ΄ΧͺΦ°Χ’Φ·Χ¦ΦΌΦ΅ΦΧ ΧΦΆΧ-ΧΦ΄ΧΦΌΦ½Χ:
βAnd Adonai regretted that God had made humanity on earth and Godβs heart was grieved.β (Gen. 6:6)
God is heartbroken. The people whom God formed with such care, the people into whom God exhaled Godβs own divine spark, the people God lovedβhad chosen a path of corruption and crime.
